Cristiano Ronaldo scored one and set up another as Portugal beat Czech Republic 3-1 to all but ensure their qualification for the quarter-finals of Euro 2008.
Deco who also scored and created another, putting Portugal ahead after eight minutes when he turned in a rebound after Petr Cech, the Czech goalkeeper, had saved from Ronaldo with his feet.
The lead was cancelled out nine minutes later when Libor Sionko scored from a diving header after a corner, but Deco set up Ronaldo for his second goal in the second half, who finished from near the penalty spot. Ronaldo then picked up a long ball from a free kick and crossed to substitute Ricardo Quaresma, who scored into an open goal.
Portugal have to play Switzerland in Basel on Sunday but, having beaten Turkey 2-0 on Saturday, are almost certain to make the last eight. They're hoping to go one better than their European Championship campaign of four years ago, when they finished as runners-up to Greece.

Wonderfully writen! Your account of the match was much more interesting than the game itself.
Congratulations!

This report fills the gaps left by entertaining visiting guests with
a small screen television. It makes me want to see a replay,on
a large flat screen. This is TELE-VISION in print! Exstatic word
play, understanding, making the beautiful game brilliant. Thank
you.

Great match description. I did not watch and was almost as excited as I would have been watching the game live. Thank you.
Portugal is going to win this!
Força Portugal!!

Can anyone see England play to this kind of standard?

Keep on scoring Ronaldo. The transfer price for Real Madrid goes up £millions after each Portugal game. SAF and the Glazier brothers must be rubbing their hands together with glee.
