What is it? Founded in 1981, Bloomberg is one of the world’s largest news, data and information companies. Its Bloomberg Professional service provides real-time and archived financial and market data, pricing and trading and is used by more than 250,000 subscribers globally. The company headquarters are in New York and it employs about 10,000 staff worldwide.
Are there opportunities for work experience? Bloomberg recruits several hundred interns each year into all of its main business areas. Summer internships generally last 10 to 12 weeks and are advertised approximately six months in advance. A high proportion of interns go on to apply for a full-time position and join the company within a year of their placement.
What graduate jobs are on offer? There are currently vacancies for about 50 graduates a month at Bloomberg and the company expects to take on at least 600 new recruits in 2008. Positions include financial sales, software development, global data, IT, project management and news. For most roles a second language is desirable but not essential.
Where are the jobs? Bloomberg’s UK headquarters is at Finsbury Square in the City of London but the company has 126 offices worldwide. What’s the pay like? Starting salaries for new graduates vary according to role and experience but are described as competitive.
What’s the competition like? Good technology and media employers typically receive 25 to 50 applications per vacancy.
How do you apply? Bloomberg hires graduates all year round and has a variety of start dates for new recruits. Apply at careers.bloomberg.com.
