GREEN RANKING FOR 2009
Ranking: 16
Worth: £4bn
Green investment: Packaging
Hans Rausing, the Swedish industrialist who moved to Britain in the early 1980s, helped to develop the Tetra Pak operation founded by his late father in 1944. It revolutionised the packaging of products such as milk and juices. Rausing sold his 50% stake for about £4.4 billion in 1995. Since then he has been investing heavily in products such as Ecolean, the environmentally-friendly packaging material made from chalk, which mainstream retailers are using. Cautiously, we value the Rausing family at £4 billion to reflect the collapse in asset values.
