Moores, 62, is part of the Merseyside family whose wealth came from the Littlewoods pools business. It later branched out into mail order and retailing. The family sold some stores in 1998, then the pools side of the business. In 2002, the remaining stores and mail order business were sold to the Barclay brothers (qv) for £750m. The family matriarch, Lady Grantchester, 82, is the daughter of the founder of the business, Sir John Moores.
