Green, 56, does not mince his words. Last month he described trading conditions on the high street as “horrible”. Monaco-based Green took over Bhs for £200m and within two years it was making £172m profit on £876m sales. But since 2005-06 profits have been falling. He admitted taking his eye off the ball following the £850m acquisition of Arcadia, whose brands include Topshop. We value Bhs and Arcadia together at about £2.5 billion, putting the Green family stake at nearly £2.33 billion. We add £1.6 billion for past dividends, including a £1.2 billion payment to Green’s wife Tina, 58, plus £400m for assets such as homes, yachts and the proceeds of property deals.
