Actually, the richest man in the world is now Mexico's Carlos Slim, not Gates and Buffett.
And as they've pointed out, a million isn't that much money any more, so a millionaire, while very well off, doesn't exactly have a "great fortune."

I do not rubbish the idea that one group of people are exploited in order for the rich to become richer but the poor have only themselves to blame for trying to live with loads of debts. It is a matter of one's choice to leave the best to the last.
Lisa, Chorley, Lancs
Tony Harding (of Aude, France) - clearly such logic is the reason why France's economy is in such dire straits. When two people engage in any voluntary trade, by definition it must be mutually beneficial (or at least percieved to be). Consequently, the richest people (excluding the anomaly of inherited wealth, which accounts for less then ten percent of the rich list I believe) are the ones whose trades have created the most value for other people and therefore for society. Whilst this means they therefore have no responsibility to donate to charity or to 'give something back', the rich still are very generous people - I believe the richest men in the world (Bill Gates and Warren Buffet) are also the most prolific donors.
Cecil Barrington, Northampton, England
The acquisition of great wealth is often the result of those who are the most competent at exploiting other human beings - whether it be through their labour or desires, real or imagined and the capacity to tenaciously hold on to what they have have 'earnt'. It would be much more interesting to have the 'most generous' list running in line with the most wealthy. In that way one could perhaps have a better idea of 'worth' rather than mere wealth.
Tony Harding, Aude, France
Money, money, money. Is that funny in the rich men's world?
Jeffrey, New York, USA
I read that Nº 119 (one of them) is "Roger Taylor". The Queen's drummer? I also knew Sir Paul McCartney is one of the richest men in the UK. Isn't it true? He isn't in the list.
Alexis Dovganj, Cordoba, Argentina
Plums...Its there. See where it says: "2007 Rich List"
Joel Kara, Essex, UK
I was sent an e-mail inviting me to look at a rich list so far all I have done is travelled your website looking for an appropriate link. From the other comments I am not the only one...................
NICOLA BLACKER, Exeter,
No really, where's the list?
Tom Turner, Peterborough,
where is the list? what a waste of time this is
Sheru George, Beaconsfield,
the times think we are here 2 waste time.next time dont try these, where is the list ?
henry, Nairobi, kenya
Who cares how these people get rich? As long as they didn't rob a bank or steal from a pensioners wallet, it doesn't bother me that there are 'filthy rich' people. There's always someone richer than you, and always people unhappier than you. It's not a contest.
Frankly, if I had worked hard, sacrificed and earned a lot in wealth and had people harping on me about what to do with it, that would be annoying, although I do think the trend to glamourise and idolise two-bit actors and thugs is misplaced. We place far too much emphasis on looks and gimmicks and too little on hard work.
Linlithgow, Bellevue , WA, USA
They're rich, but are they happy?
Kim Righetti, Upland, Calif. USA
Why don't you publish a "who pays the most tax in the UK" list?
stuart, penzance, uk
You will not have a description of all the occupations and money making schemes that have made these people rich. One at least makes his millions from verbal sex, that is, adult phone lines.
jane fleming, Whittlesey, UK
To get the list, click the main heading that reads 'Sunday Times Rich List 2007'. It's not obvious that this is a link, so I think this is why people are having trouble it.
Richard, Cambridge, UK
Where is the list??????? Why so many clicks to find it?
Clare, London,
Presumably the individual who designed such a user unfriendly Rich List web link does not wish readers to actually see the list of names - hence the confusing layout of the site. Why make it such hard work? (Perhaps only Rich List members have the intellect to navigate it?)
David , Stirling, UK
Yes, where is the wretched list???
Of the few names I have seen, far too many appear to be foreigners and that won't do.
Michael, London,
I don't know anyone on the Rich List. Does that mean I am missing out or that I am blessed? I think the latter because I know God and He is richer than them all put together - and then more!
John, Chania, Crete
This is mental. Not only am I not on the list, but I can't read the list either. WHERE IS IT?
Dave, Sheffield,
I'm not being dumb am I..........? where IS the list?
searching with blank fields does not find it.
matt, Portsmouth,
Where is the list?
David Robertson, London, UK
So Fustrating, Where is the list !
BBates, Sheffield, UK
To view the list, go to the search area and press "search" without filling in any fields. You'll then get the complete list.
Me, New York, USA
I agree with Dan, Peter and the others. Breaking down the list into different categories is a good idea, as is writing articles to go with them but why not include the list?
When I'm invited by e-mail to view a list of the 1000 richest people, that's what I'm expecting ... a list! If I wanted to search names, well - that's what Google is for!
Nick Goddard, Osaka, Japan
Total lack of consideration for overseas readers. Whilst I can buy the Sunday Times here in Spain the supliments are never made available.
The web site requires you to enter one of a thousand names to view their wealth and position. Surely it would be better for all concerned if they just produced the entire list in a pdf. Then everyone would be happy.
Peter Silvester, Estepona, Spain
Can somebody from The Times lst us know if the list is actually available on this site (or otherwise)
Greg, Kuwait,
Karen,
In this time of 'the customer being king', it isnt that easy really, either.
If The Times are in the market of repeat users of their website, then surely the feedback from the majority should be of concern to them.
Shame we're not all as bleedin' marvellous as Karen.
Dan, Somerset, UK
Paul (and others), if you look on the main Rich List web page and click on the top article, which is aptly and obviously headlined The Sunday Times 2007 Rich List, you will find the search function for the entire list.
Not that difficult really.
Karen Hennoste, London,
So it wasn't just me, where is the list? Why can't you just publish it where we can read it?
Dave Mills, Rugby,
When you are told to click on to see the rich list I expect it to be there in front of me. What a waste of time.
juliette langford, chichester, uk
Very infurating, come on just show us a list from top to bottom showing how much they are worth.
James Vardy, Nottingham, UK
Most frustrating. Where is the list?
Kate, Brighton,
Yeah: where's the simple listing - with click throughs to details? Wish I'd remembered to buy the paper!
Paul, Reading,
You shouldnt have to download anything i mean i dont trust anything from the internet
James, Bradford,
This was a waste of time....all I wanted was a list to look at...why does everyone have to make everything so blasted complicated now days.
carry, lincoln, UK
that was really good idea by times that they have given away the rich list . i really liked it. its the best newspaper i everseen. best in the world
sunny, dudley, uk
Why is it so hard to find the rich list? What a badly designed website.
Chris, Newcastle, England
