Klaus Kleinfeld was elected president and chief operating officer of Alcoa on August 15, 2007, and assumed responsibilities on October 1, 2007. Mr Kleinfeld has been a member of Alcoa's board of directors since November 14, 2003.
Mr Kleinfeld was president and chief executive officer of Siemens AG, the global electronics and industrial conglomerate, from January 2005 to June 2007. Previously, he served as deputy chairman of the managing board and executive vice president of Siemens AG from 2004 to January 2005. He was president and chief executive officer, Siemens Corporation, the US arm of Siemens AG, from 2002 to 2004. He had been a member of the managing board of Siemens AG since 2002. Mr Kleinfeld served as chief operating officer of Siemens Corporation from January to December 2001.
Prior to his US assignment, Mr Kleinfeld was executive vice president and a member of the executive board of the Siemens AG Medical Engineering group in Germany and earlier was president of the Siemens AG Angiography, Fluoroscopy and X-Ray Systems businesses for two years until December 31, 1999.
In addition to seving on Alcoa's board, he is a member of the board of Bayer AG.
Mr Kleinfeld was born on November 6, 1957, in Bremen, Germany. He earned a master's degree in business administration/economics from the University of Goettingen (Germany) in 1982, followed by a PhD in strategic management from the University of Wuerzburg (Germany). In his leisure time, he enjoys skiing, tennis, the arts, and is a marathon runner.
