Attend a special evening hosted by Mike Atherton

The adventure holidays offered by independent tour company Explore might be out of this world, but the firm focuses on responsible tourism. Founded in 1981, the Hampshire-based company strives to ensure that its impact on the environment is minimal, its workers around the world are treated fairly and local cultures and customs are respected.
Whether embarking on an Arctic whale safari, a gorilla getaway in Rwanda or a trip to the Great Wall of China, Explore customers don't accumulate hefty carbon footprints for their flights because offsetting is included in the tour price.
A green score of 91% shows staff believe the firm's environmental initiatives are serious. They say Explore does a lot for the environment (88%) and that they don't associate green issues with beards and sandals (92%, a top five score).
Explore is proud that environmental commitments are at the heart of how it operates (83%) and are what distinguishes it from other tour firms. Overseas suppliers such as transport and accommodation providers sign a contract with Explore which states they must adhere to the firm's responsible tourism policy for overseas operators, and travellers are asked for feedback. Employees are happy that the company does everything it can to minimise its environmental impact (89%).
Serendip, a rescued baby elephant, is just one example of Explore's charity work. In 2007, the firm adopted the elephant in Sri Lanka, and the financial support will keep her healthy until she is released into the wild. Other good causes supported by Explore include the Galapagos Conservation Trust and Friends of Conservation.
Closer to home, the head office in Farnborough has benefited from the firm's £58,000 commitment to environmental initiatives last year, including adding an extra £20 a month to the office cleaning budget to buy cleaning products with a reduced impact in the enviroment.
Bigger investments include the installation of waterless urinals and a new heating and air conditioning system. The company buys up to 20% of its energy from a green tariff. Staff believe they can influence the way energy is used in the workplace (73%). They choose to wear an extra layer rather than turn up the heating (74%) and say that the environment is an everyday consideration at the firm (89%).
Recycling isn't limited to paper and plastic. Everything from CDs and computers to Christmas cards and bras is collected, and workers know exactly where to put waste for recycling (95%).
Staff are kept up to date with environmental issues (87%) and they are welcome to suggest ideas for further improvement to their boss (89%). There are plenty of signs around the workplace to remind people to think green (85%) and there is no excuse for driving a gas-guzzling car to work — there are good facilities for those who run, walk or cycle (the 97% green score is beaten by just one other firm).
