This might be a global professional services firm, but the 11,500 UK staff at Deloitte think about how they physically reach their clients. The firm’s “green agenda” includes avoiding unnecessary travel and people are encouraged to car-share or use public transport, with a 51% green score. Most don’t travel by car (71%, a top 10 score), and there are facilities for those who cycle or walk (74%, a top 20 score). Employees receive eco awareness training, but the company ranks only 45th in our survey for training and motivation of staff on green issues. However, volunteers at the London head office work as “green champions” and just one business scores higher than the 82% recorded here for encouraging participation in the company’s community programme. The organisation, which has a stand-alone report on its environmental policy and performance, has increased general recycling by 40% in a year, and reduced its carbon footprint by a fifth in the past 18 months.
