Power equipment specialist GenSet isn’t just trying to make its own business greener, it is helping others to become more environmentally friendly too.
The firm is the UK’s leading supplier of engine-driven welders, generators, lighting towers and mobile welfare units, including green ones, and also a distributor for water-free urinal manufacturer, Uridan.
Last year the south Wales firm recycled all of its waste oil and fuel, cardboard and paper and it aims to be sending no waste to landfill by the end of 2010. With a relatively low carbon footprint itself, it feels it can make an even bigger contribution to the environment by helping its suppliers and customers reduce theirs. Its products are mainly diesel powered and, by making them more efficient, GenSet saves customers money because they buy less fuel and lower their carbon footprint at the same time.
The firm gets green scores of 86% in our employee survey for being both seriously committed to protecting the environment and doing everything it can to minimise its impact on the environment.
Our survey found that chairman Josh Llewellyn and chief executive Jeff Davies are committed to the environment (91%), open to suggestions for further green improvements (94%) and encourage staff to think about energy saving (85%).
Employees say that the environment is an everyday consideration at GenSet (85%) and are aware of the company’s eco policy (89%, the sixth highest score on this point). They also say that taking environmental action doesn’t prevent them getting on with their job (84%) and people in their team think green (88%), ranking 15th and ninth respectively.
