Clear Channel Outdoor UK has more billboard sites than any other company in the world so it has all the exposure it needs to get its green message across.
The firm launched the first public bike-sharing programme in France 10 years ago and since then many cities have followed suit. Employees feel that the impact of the company on the environment has improved, giving a 73% green score. They also agree its initiatives are not a waste of money (an 83% green score).
Clear Channel has introduced 20 hybrid vehicles for its sales teams and has switched three-quarters of its fleet to liquefied petroleum gas, resulting in a reduction of 74 tons of carbon emission annually. The firm is currently trialling electric cars for city centre work and is also investigating the use of alternative fuels such as biodiesel and ethanol.
About 95% of Clear Channel’s billboard posters, totalling more than 500 tons, are recycled annually. The company also recycles all its fluorescent tubes, lamps and waste electrical equipment. It recently engaged in a successful trial to recycle glass and more than 12 tons were crushed to sand, which was then used for paving and construction.
