Johnston flies to Aeroplan David Johnston has been appointed president and chief executive officer of Groupe Aeroplan-Europe. Based in London, Mr Johnston will have responsibility for European-based business, including Nectar, the loyalty programme. He will also oversee rewards programmes in the Middle East, including Air Miles. He joins from Pepsico International. Aeroplan also said that Ian Filby, acting as interim CEO since July, will join the company’s European advisory board.

Marsh moves in Marsh, the insurance broker, has appointed Simon Curtis as chief operating officer of Marsh UK. He succeeds Ian Clarke, who is moving to a senior management position in Marsh’s International Division. Mr Curtis joins from Jardine Lloyd Thompson, insurance brokers, where he was managing director of the general insurance business. Marsh has also announced that Simon Markey is to become chief executive officer of its UK Affinity business.

Nicandrou joins the Pru Nic Nicandrou has joined Prudential, the financial services group, as chief financial officer and a board director. Mr Nicandrou joins from Aviva, where he has worked for 11 years in a range of positions, including finance director of Norwich Union Life and Aviva group financial control director.

St James’s welcomes Ralph St James’s Place wealth management has appointed Chris Ralph as its first chief investment officer. Mr Ralph, who previously set up Maia Capital, an asset management boutique, previously worked at Fidelity International, investment managers.

St James’s also said that Vivian Bazalgette and Peter Dunscombe are to join its investment committee from January. Mr Bazalgette was most recently chief investment officer at Prudential and Mr Dunscombe joins from the BBC Pension Trust.

Vontobel strengthens top Vontobel Group, a Swiss private bank, has made three senior appointments in London. Matthew Thomas joins from Cheuvreux, a brokerage, as head of sales trading to UK clients, Stuart McCandlish also joins from Cheuvreux as a senior sales person and Leland Tomblick joins from Bank am Bellevue as a senior sales person.
