ABERSOCH A mobile home has gone on sale for an unprecedented £500,000.
With sea views “to die for” and a stretch of unspoilt beach as a front garden, it is hardly your average caravan park fixture. The 42ft by 20ft (13m by 6m) chalet offers three bedrooms, a kitchen and a bathroom.
The company selling the home in North Wales, and another nearby mobile home for £475,000, said prices had been forced up by a “stratospheric” local property market. Last year a beach hut in Abersoch fetched £63,000 at auction and a tin hut with picturesque views in Holyhead went on sale for £80,000.
The eventual buyer will also have to pay an annual lease of £4,750 to the Warren holiday park, where the chalets are sited. The ground on which the chalet is situated will also become available again in 20 years.
Andrew Sawyer, of the Haulfryn Group, which owns the Warren, said that prices reflected the local market and that homes would be offered to people on their years-long waiting list.
Hywel Williams, MP for Caernarfon, said: “It is a real sign of the pressures of the market in that area, and proof there is a need for a local set-up to protect the local market.”

For those unaware of the location of this "Shangi La": firstly hit multimap.com and search for Abersoch. Notice the public footpath marked on the OS map running right through the site and down to the beach. Secondly centre the map on the Warren itself and zoom in a bit. Now tell me who would want to spend half a million to spend holiday/weekend time on a higgledy-piggledy high density housing development, even if it is close to a beach (with typically cold water as per most beaches in the UK)?
Peter Jones, Caernarfon, Gwynedd
I'd be interested to know how long your family have lived in Abersoch Sam?
John, Preston, England
I own a property in Abersoch and do not intend to sell - ever. The only beneficiary will be the collector of Inheritance tax!
David, Chesterfield, UK
Why don't the trendy folk move into Rhyl, the beach is fantastic and there is a harbour for the boating types, it is much closer to the Manchester footballer belt and most of the locals speak english not welsh. The fish and chip shops are everywhere, there is a new Wilkinsons. M&S, Woolworths, Morrisons, Sainsbury's etc. have been there for years, what more could anyone want and the average price of the property, probably about £100K. Julian, open up your eyes, no need to go anywhere near Scotland, stick with Sunny Rhyl, you will not be disappointed!!!

What happens when the water levels rise?
Claire, Worcester,
Who exactly predicted a collapse? I am always confused when people quote this. We live on an over crowded island, unless the economy crashes the likely hood of a collapse is very slim indeed. Property tends to go up NOT down. Good news for my house on the other side of the headland.
Mike Auton, Llanbedrog, UK
Well you need to be able to speak fluent Welsh for Starters. Its actually people like you Julian who want to move to the area that is making the prices for the locals go up. So i would head for scotland in your own castle. theres not enough jobs for locals as it is....
Sam, Abersoch, North Wales
Julian, I agree - Lets move to Scotland...
Daniel, Staffs,
So much for the long predicted house prices collapse!
Wing, Poole, UK
What is the world coming to when a Scottish castle can be bought for less then a mobile home in Abersoch.
What chance does it give for those like me who genuinely want to move into the area to live, work and be a member of the local community.
Julian, Staffs, UK
