The International University of Monaco, founded in 1986, aims to combine European academic rigour with American practicality. It’s based in the luxurious – and expensive – wealth haven of Monaco but is within walking distance of more affordable living in France.
Vital statistics. Only about 40 students are accepted on to the ten-month programme each year; they have an average age of 30, an average GMAT score of 640 and at least three years’ work experience. The programme begins with an optional three-week preparation session that covers business principles and quantitative methods; moves into the foundation sequence, which incorporates topics such as values and ethics as well as core business subjects and a field study; and ends with elective courses that allow students to specialise in an area such as wealth management, international marketing or luxury goods and services. Tuition for 2009-10 is €22,050 (£17,550).
Rankings. International University of Monaco is ranked 35th in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Which MBA? guide 2007.
Networking opportunities. The school runs a mentoring programme that connects students with local business leaders; it also has links with the Bankers Association; the NeXt Generation Entrepreneurs Forum and the Grimaldi Forum. Would-be entrepreneurs can also join the student-led Entrepreneur Association.
Scholarship opportunities. There are a number available. They include five merit-based scholarships of €5,000 each; one of €10,000; and three that cover half the course’s tuition cost. See website for eligibility.
Application deadline: July 31 (late admissions); if places still remain they are allocated at the department’s discretion.
