Jonathan Cooper is a barrister at Doughty Street Chambers, where he trained under the legendary human rights silk Edward Fitzgerald. A specialist in British and international human rights law, Cooper earned an OBE for his own contribution to the field. He was closely involved with the implementation of the Human Rights Act and trained several government departments in the new rules; has edited a number of leading publications; wrote the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe's manual on counter-terrorism and human rights; and trained judges and soldiers on human rights law in several foreign countries. He is also chair of the Human Rights Lawyers' Association and convenes the London School of Economics' human rights courses. His interests outside the law include swimming, riding, sailing, opera and dogs.
