Lord Bingham of Cornhill is the guest speaker at this year's Bar Conference which takes place on Saturday November 1 at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London.
Lord Bingham, who has just stepped down as senior law lord, will address the conference on its theme of "Multinationalism and Multiculturalism - tomorrow's world?"
This year's event, whose main sponsors are Sweet & Maxwell and Cavanagh Group (financial advisers) with The Times as media sponsor, is expected to attract several hundred barristers from all sectors of the profession.
Key events include an open forum debate, moderated by Desmond Browne, QC, the leading defamation silk and next year's chairman of the Bar on the topic of "multiculturalism, the rule of law and judicial activism" with a panel of leading lawyers.
The panel of top-name speakers consists of: Justice Edwin Cameron, a judge in the Court of Appeal, South Africa; Lord Neuberger of Abbotsbury, the law lord; and Sir Konrad Schiemann, a judge of the European Court of Justice.
The extensive range of sessions spans the Commercial Bar on the international field; English and religious law; human trafficking; ethnical dilemmas in everyday practice; hate crime; and judicial appointments.
There is also a special Young Bar Forum on "advocacy in a multicultural and multinational world".
The one-day event closes with a reception.
