Cartel defence, a sub-section of European and Competition law, has been a major growth area for UK law firms over the past five to ten years, with competition experts transformed from a supporting role to the frontline.
Almost every major law firm has a substantial competition practice which will include specialists in contentious work such as defending businesses against cartel allegations.
According to trade publication Legal Week, competition is one of the biggest revenue generators for law firms, with established experts charging between £600 and £800 an hour.
