Kwik Save has appointed KPMG to help it to consider its options after the supermarkets chain closed a third of its stores yesterday. The firm hopes to raise new finance in the next few weeks to stave off administration. Kwik Save is to meet union representatives to discuss the closure of 79 stores at the cost of about 700 jobs. Retail insiders believe that KPMG is likely to struggle to find backing because many of the 147 operational stores occupy poor locations.

It is all very well pointing the finger at the BTTF directors, but do we forget the underinvestment that Kwiksave suffered while part of the Somerfield Group? I was a Kwiksave employee for two years before we were informed that we would be converting to a Somerfield Store. The moment we opened our new automatic doors all the problems that we had put up with during our time as a Kwiksave vanished. Somerfield picked the most profitable stores, the best supply chains and the best of the equipment which left poor Kwiksave with little facilities to operate their stores. I feel that Somerfield is responsible for the colapse of Kwiksave and that it stems from the 'merger' that took place in 1998 when investment in Kwiksave stopped. BTTF were left with a company in ruins, they didn't stand a chance. Good luck to all ex employees and those who will work with Freshxpress. 2007 - R.I.P Kwiksave
peter, ruthin,
We have heard 56 stores have been saved out of the 146 and that the other 90 had been closed. This is yet another lie by both Kwiksave and they have now dragged KPMG into it. Bestwood in Nottingham was closed in May 07 and was not one of the 20 stores that Kwiksave Reopened (check usdaw website) it lists the stores. That means they have reopened a store firstly with no staff plus shut another store that had staff putting more people out of work. I would place money on it that within the next month KPMG will anounce that fresh express have taken over more shops.Again all debts will be wiped free and the crooks that ruined kwiksave will carry on. Its time for the goverment to investigate both kwiksave and somerfield directors
A Manager, UK,
And the kwik save circus goes on with todays news that 22 stores have been closed this morning.Lets see if we get our redundancy next week being as people made redundant in march still have not been paid all their money.
Fed up with kwik save, Bolton,
This must be part of the master plan, these people don't waste money needleesly. The next phase will be the stores that have been sold, don't know how many! the company will then be convience size, no longer called a supermarket they wil then be able to charge higher prices due to lack of buying power but increase margins. It's a shame it didn't continue but BTTF directors got it wrong from the start, Somerfield must have been laughing all the way to the bank. If only the company had been up front from the start we would not be in this situation.I apluad thenm for trying for the past 15 months.Good luck to all of you who have recived your letters this week, and every success to thoes poor buggers that are left.I'm off to the job centre, see you there.
david, coventry,
I was one of the many employees made redundant on tuesday, now i'm reading this and i'm very worried because i've been told i'll get my redundancy package on the 21st June, but if the company cannot raise new finances administration looks inevitable. If administration is around the corner for the company then we'll get nothing i assume. We'll have to wait month for the goverment to pay us, how are we surposed to manage? This new team of directors are a joke, they done nothing to encourage customers into the shops, only drove them away. No suppliers will ever trust them again due to late and unpaid bills, i cannot see how the remaining stores can survive. All of us now currently unemployed have got the added worry of wondering if we'll get the money that's so rightly owed to us, especially after the hell we have all been through for the past 15 months.
