St Helena, a tiny island in the South Atlantic with just 3,900 inhabitants, will have an airport, after extensive feasibility and business case studies headed by Atkins Management Consultants, but drawn from expertise across its engineering and technology business. The Department for Work and Pensions outsourced its ambitious programme to convert 14 million customer accounts from paper-based forms of benefit payments into electronic payments direct into their bank accounts. It delivered the project one year early.
