— In the Media Business section on Friday July 4 Dan Sabbagh drew a parallel between the Telegraph Group and Trinity Mirror, which has a £1.5 billion pension fund and has a debt liability of approximately £425 million. The Telegraph Group has asked us to make clear that it has no pension fund liability and it has more than sufficient funds to discharge all of its borrowings whenever it chooses. We are happy to clarify the situation and regret any misunderstanding.
— Nick Robinson is a surprisingly senior choice to fill a gap as a co-presenter of the Today programme during the summer. He may have created a new illness in prostrate cancer but one can't help wondering what he is being lined up for. Does the BBC think that John Humphrys and James Naughtie are getting too old and it's time to bring on new talent, such as Robinson and Evan Davis? Don't rule it out.
— Commercial radio was hailing a rare victory in the latest set of radio audience measurement figures, with its share recovering from a dismal 41.1 per cent in the first quarter to 42.4 per cent in the second; while the BBC eased back to 55.5 per cent from 56.8 per cent. But Classic FM's weekly audience has dropped to its lowest since at least 1999 with 5.47 million weekly listeners, and even Chris Moyles and Sir Terry Wogan lost morning listeners on Radio 1 and Radio 2 respectively.
— In London Bauer's Magic 105.4 has taken a clear lead among commercial stations with a 7.4 per cent share, well ahead of Global's Heart 106.2, at 5.7 per cent, and Global/GCap's Capital 95.8 the former leader now way back at 4.6 per cent.
— Sir Michael Lyons, the chairman of the BBC Trust, ran up £26,167.44 in expenses last year. But even he was behind the Scottish trustee Jeremey Peat, who ran up £30,976.40 - out of a total bill for all 12 trust members of £147,373. Plenty to claim for then.
