Times Online has been nominated for website of the year in the prestigious British Press awards , it was announced this morning.
Journalists from Times Online, The Times and The Sunday Times secured a host of other nominations, including two for Daniel FInkelstein, the Times Comment Editor. He is shortlisted for both political journalist and digital journalist of the year for his Comment Central blog.
In the foreign reporter category, both Deborah Haynes of The Times, who is based in Baghdad, and Christina Lamb of The Sunday Times, were shortlisted.
Both newspapers also secured nominations for their sports journalism, with Martin Samuel and Paul Kimmage (The Sunday Times) both on the shortlist.
Ginny Dougary and Janice Turner of The Times have been nominated as interviewer and columnist of the year respectively, while Rod Liddle of the Sunday Times is shortlisted in the latter category.
The Sunday Times secured a clutch of nominations for its features sections and supplements. David Smith (ST) was nominated for feature writer of the year, while AA Gill is up for critic of the year. Both The Sunday Times magazine and the newspaper’s Culture section are shortlisted for supplement of the year.
Patrick Foster (The Times) and Claire Newell (The Sunday Times) were both nominated for young journalist of the year, and Holly Watt and Robert Winnett (Sunday Times) secured a place on the shortlist in the best scoop category for their revelations about Frederick Conway, "MP Hires Son on Expenses". Michael Smith’s Nimrod campaign for The Sunday Times is up for campaign of the year.
Peter Brookes, the Times' award-winning cartoonist, is nominated for best cartoonist, while three Times photographers are also shortlisted – Richard Pohle and Peter Nicholls for photographer of the year, and Marc Aspland for sports photographer of the year.
The shortlisted entrants were decided by 100 judges drawn from all the national newspapers, the regional press and independent figures from the world of journalism. Finalists in the categories of newspaper of the year and journalist of the year are to be announced next week, and the winners will be unveiled on April 8.

The Gaurdian was my first call everyday for several years. I have naturaly gravited to the Times since last year. It has a much better balance than the others.

I'm not suprised. I've been on the internet for 18 years and I've found The Times to be one of the better sources for News.
