Lord Black of Crossharbour, the disgraced newspaper tycoon, must go straight to jail on Monday, a Chicago court has ruled.
Black cannot delay his six-and-a-half year sentence while his appeal against his conviction for fraud is heard, said the federal appeals court.
Prisoner No 18330-424, who has been on $21 million (£10.6 million) bail at his waterfront estate in Palm Beach, Florida, must report to the low-security Federal Correctional Institute at Coleman, Florida, in three days' time.
Black, 63, and three other employees of Hollinger, his former publishing empire which owned The Daily Telegraph, were found guilty in June of stealing $6.1 million.
Earlier this month an attempt to have his prison term delayed to June 15 pending his appeal also failed. A Chicago judge ruled that he had failed to demonstrate that a "substantial question of law or fact" was likely to result in the appeal succeeding.
Born in Montreal, Black gave up his Canadian citizenship in 2001 in exchange for a life peerage in the House of Lords.

This crook should be severely punished. apart from embezzling shareholders assets , he ordered his editors to trumpet Israel's virtues from all his organs. No doubt prompted by his lavish living wife and Zionist Barbara Amiel
Stick him in Jail for a long period ( although like most white collar criminals he will be out soon to continue his life of luxury and vanity)

The guy is only guilty of being pompous. I guess in the US and in Britain you can get a prison sentence for that. Never in Canada. He has managed his public company to his advantage but always within the limits of the law. All Canadians know never to try to get justice in the US, it never works. Their system is broken beyond repair.

Black had just about the best defense money could buy and he was still found guilty. Most legal experts get that this is a sound and fair verdict. it should be noted that despite his endless protestations of innocence, he never testified in his own defense. A dishonest CEO has been held accountable and justice has been served.

This is hardly justice but it is US-style justice. Guilty or not the machine of justice was slanted to find him and his co-defendants guilty. Conrad is surely guilty of being rude, pompous , condescending, et. al, but most learned legal beagles agree that this is anything but a just verdict or even a just decision. Moral of the story - don't risk the US justice system.

Why hasn't his status as lord been removed hes now a criminal

What he sowed he has reaped. Thank goodness the class system does not influence American criminal procedures and punishments.

... and he will be released as early as possible because our jails are full, and of course he is a 'toff'. Keep him over there and make him suffer whilst he reflects on his criminal behaviour.
Chris D, Edinburgh, Scotland
How come he wasn't taken straight to jail after being found guilty, like any other criminal? Don't tell me, he's going to have a nice cushy suite in a private wing, and not the ordinary prison cell along with everyone else that he should have.

The DAY OF KARMAGEDDON has finally come for a really obnoxious poisoner of public opinion, bombast and snob, who turned out in the end to be no more than a thief.
The life peerage that he gave up Canadian citizenship for will cost him dear; as a Canadian, he would have been able to serve his time in a much less unpleasant Canadian nick and would have qualified for parole as much as three years earlier than he will in the USA.
The bad news for Britain is that he will be deported to there upon his release, and you have to take him in because he's a citizen.
