The company behind the BBC's controversial documentary about the Queen was dealt a second successive blow today after ITV suspended new programme orders from the producer until the so-called Crowngate affair has been resolved.
RDF Media, the producer of Channel 4's Faking It and Wife Swap, said ITV had told it that no new programmes would be commissioned until the independent inquiry into the scandal surrounding the BBC documentary had been completed.
It said it understood that the inquiry into the BBC's series A Year with the Queen was scheduled to publish its findings in September.
The setback comes only a day after the BBC also suspended commissions from RDF.
The move sent its shares sliding yesterday despite the firm's insistence that it would have limited impact on its business performance.
RDF repeated its confidence today, maintaining that: "The directors do not consider that a pause in commissioning by ITV will have a material impact on the group's results in the current year."
It added: "The directors remain confident of prospects for the full year."
The television company's shares fell again today, declining by 15.6 per cent to 194.5p in early trading, adding to an 8 per cent fall yesterday after the BBC announcement.
The BBC accounted for about 10 per cent of RDF's revenues last year and ITV about 11 per cent, the company said.
The media sector has been in turmoil since footage from the BBC documentary shown in advance to journalists appeared to show the Queen storming out of a photoshoot "in a huff" after falling out with the prominent portrait photographer Annie Leibovitz.
In fact, the Queen was arriving at the shoot and the seqence of events had been altered.
The BBC was forced to issue a humbling apology over the incident, which was particulary embarassing because it involved the Queen.
The incident was the second in a series of setbacks that has threatened to engulf the publicly funded broadcaster and its director-general, Mark Thompson.
It came only days after the BBC was hit with a record £50,000 fine for faking a Blue Peter phone-in competition.
This week the BBC acknowledged "grave mistakes" as it confessed to rigging phone-ins on six shows — Comic Relief, Sport Relief, Children In Need, the children's show Tmi and radio shows The Liz Kershaw Show and White Label — this year.
