2006 Helmut Elsner, the former chief executive of Bawag, and Wolfgang Flöttl, a Bawag trader, are charged over $2.5 billion of losses on currency and interest rate swaps at the Austrian bank
2001 John Rusnak, a currency trader at Allfirst, a US subsidiary of Allied Irish Bank, loses almost $700 million. In 2003 he was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison
1997 Peter Young, a Morgan Grenfell fund manager, loses $700 million on equities trading. The bank is forced to compensate 80,000 investors who lost money because of Mr Young's trading. A fraud prosecution was dropped after Young, who attended court dressed as a woman and had partially castrated himself, was declared unfit to stand trial
1996 Yasuo Hamanaka, a Sumitomo Corporation copper trader, loses $2.6 billion. Hamanaka was known as Mr Copper for his control of the market. He was sentenced to eight years in prison in 1998 and released in 2005
1995 Derivatives trader Nick Leeson causes the collapse of Barings Bank with loses of $1.4 billion. Sentenced to six and a half years in Changi Prison in Singapore, he was released in 1999 and is now an after-dinner speaker and the chief executive of Galway United Football Club
1995 Toshihide Iguchi, a bond trader at Daiwa Bank, was responsible for $1.1 billion in losses over 11 years. He was sentenced to four years in prison in 1995 and later write a book titled My Billion Dollar Education
