- Chuck Prince was appointed chief executive of Citigroup in 2003, charged with cleaning up a group tarnished by the fallout from the Worldcom debacle. He took over from the Wall Street veteran Sandy Weill
- Citigroup settled for $2.6 billion (£1.3 billion) when Worldcom shareholders sued for their part in the technology firm's downfall
- Citigroup was forced to close its banking arm in Japan after regulators found that it was less than stringent on money laundering, and Mr Prince purged senior executives
- That same year Mr Prince, a lawyer by trade, was forced to apologise when watchdogs criticised its bond-trading practices in Europe
- In 2004 he was forced to dismiss Margaret Ren, the group's head of investment banking in China, over allegations of malpractice during an IPO. She was cleared of any wrongdoing
- In July 2007 Mr Prince made headlines when, on the eve of the liquidity crisis, he said that Citigroup would keep "dancing" by financing private equity deals for as long as the music lasted
- In the last 18 months he has presided over an exodus from Citigroup's consumer operations, amid mounting criticism of his leadership
