Naomi Stevens, 26, was recently made redundant after her position as a veterinary nurse was no longer available at the end of her maternity leave.
Mrs Stevens and her husband Geoff, 29, a football coach, are now struggling with £45,000 worth of unsecured debt after taking out loans and credit cards to cover the cost of their wedding, mortgage and children aged 2 and 9 months.
Mrs Stevens said: “Geoff is trying to take on more work in the evenings and I have an interview on Friday - but even when I do go back to work most of my earnings will be swallowed up in childcare costs.
“We are never extravagant, but everyday living expenses are just too high - nappies, bills, petrol - it all adds up.
“My car broke down the other day and it cost £1,800 to get it fixed.”
The Stevenses are now considering selling their house to pay off a chunk of the debt, and have a valuer coming round tomorrow.
“I know house prices are falling and now is not the best time to sell - but as we do have some equity in the property, I don’t know what other choice we have. We will just have to rent or move in with our parents,” she said.

Recession hurts, inflation kills!
Paul Freeman, London, England
I think it is about time we stopped looking for the negative in things and started helping each other get out of this serious mess. Where are the great leaders that could initiate the progress we need to make to go forward. When people lose jobs it is a traumaticic time.

Blah blah blah, reduce rates... Will, Lincoln.
Are you mad?! This would devalue Sterling pushing imports prices through the roof (of which the UK is something in the region of 75% imported goods reliant).
Reduce the rates and then we'd see the true meaning of inflation.
Goldmember, Bristol, UK
The UK economy is on life support because unlike the Federal Reserve our BofE could not forecaste the economic benefit of reducing interest rates to 2%. The dynamics of the credit crunch always meant risks to growth far out weighed inflation as in just a month commodity markets are in recession.

In manufacturing the cost of financing stock and debtors has risen beyond the wildest of imaginations and has resulted in a standstill in new order intake. Further, large scale redundancies are unavoidable and many more manufacturers will go into liquidation.

Local Authorities should be encouraged to open up Windfall Housing Sites for local builders to employ locals and thus keep businesses 'ticking over'.
