Could British Land once again be run by a Ritblat?

Stephen Hester's move to head RBS creates an attractive vacancy as chief executive of British Land.

There are three obvious internal candidates - Graham Roberts, Andrew Jones and Tim Roberts - but the board will also look outside and there is chatter that they may consider Jamie Ritblat, whose father, Sir John, ran the company for years.

Jamie, who started out at British Land, has had a good credit crunch at Delancey, the George Soros-backed company that he runs.

As things started to look wobbly last summer he sold assets and raised new money. The board might be nervous of the company looking too much like a family affair, but Jamie must be a contender.
