Stobart’s stardom

Eddie Stobart is the “it girl” of the haulage business. An Eddie Stobart truck, like Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, is somehow famous, simply for being seen. The Carlisle-based company operates in an arena unlikely to generate celebrity: industrial logistics. And, yet, there are said to be 25,000 members of the Stobart fan club who collect mementos and compete in the Stobart truck spotters’ league. Some say Jools Holland, the musician, was the first to start counting green lorries on the road. In the end, the Cult of Stobart is a mystery. But the fact that the company is coming to market is surely good news for amateur Stobart spotters everywhere: it will mean more trucks on the road.
