What is it?
UBS is the second-highest-ranked investment bank in The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers, but has suffered because of the recent turmoil in the world’s credit markets. UBS made profits of more than $9 billion (£4.4 billion) last year but has just announced losses of about $700 million for the three months to the end of September. It has headquarters in Zurich and Basel in Switzerland, and is one of the world’s largest wealth and asset management firms. It has offices in 50 countries and employs more than 80,000 people.

Are there opportunities for work experience?
UBS offers summer internships in areas including sales, trading, research and analysis. Applicants need a minimum UCAS tariff of 300 and be available to join the bank’s 2009 graduate entry programme.

What graduate jobs are on offer?
UBS expects to hire about 250 graduates in 2008 to work in its wealth management, global asset management, investment banking and central support functions. This includes roles in equities, fixed income, IT, fund management, corporate finance, risk, operations and marketing.

Where are the jobs?
UBS’s investment bank is at Liverpool Street but the firm has other offices in the City of London.

What’s the pay like?
According to The Graduate Market in 2008 report, the average pay for graduates joining leading City banks is expected to be £38,000. What’s the competition like? Investment banks typically received between 50 and 150 applications per vacancy in 2007.
