The company, which provides engineering and construction expertise to the UK electricity supply industry, has grown from a workforce of just five to 51 in five years, and has its headquarters in Cheshire.
Its strong family and team ethos is pressing all the right buttons for staff, who give the firm 94% positive scores for belief in the principles of the organisation and recommending it as a place to work. Committed to achieving its corporate objectives without compromising the aspirations of its staff, PTS has no problems attracting and retaining employees. Everyone receives 21-30 days’ off-the-job training in their first three years, and employees give the firm an 86% score for helping their careers through useful training.
More than a third of workers have been on the payroll for at least three years and staff turnover is just 4%. It’s not surprising then that most employees would not leave tomorrow if they had another job offer (a 93% positive score).
Our staff survey reveals a highly motivated workforce where the staff feel valued and supported by their managers, in whom they have great faith.
Employees are proud to work here (91%) and have confidence in the skills of the senior management team (90%), ranking the company fourth and second respectively on these measures across the top 100.
Most people are not bored with the work they do (88%), giving the company the second best score for this category. They also believe senior managers listen, and the 89% score here is the highest.
PTS knows the power of teamwork and staff are encouraged to socialise outside the office through the firm’s sports clubs and company gatherings, boosted by a budget of £12,000 or £235 per employee.
The staff, 45% of whom earn more than £35,000, also think very highly of PTS director Duncan Mansfield — workers give him a 92% positive score for doing a great job, the fourth highest in our survey.
The company sponsors a children’s football club. However, many staff think such support is driven by a desire for good publicity, and the 50% score here is the sixth lowest.
Flexible working, private healthcare, two weeks’ paternity leave on full pay and a share of the company profits are among the benefits enjoyed by staff.
