Strong leadership, good team spirit and highly motivated staff are found
behind the balance sheets at Deloitte. The tax and auditing firm, which
recorded pre-tax profits of £418.5m last year, has more than 9,700 staff in
the UK who say they love working for the business, giving it a 64% positive
score.
Our survey shows high levels of pride and job satisfaction in Deloitte’s 23
offices — employees are proud to work for the organisation (76% positive)
and find their job stimulating (72%).
Deloitte spends about £12m a year on developing its employees and has a
dedicated team of trainers who can help staff choose from more than 4,500
e-learning courses and 500 classroom options. Every staff member has a
career development adviser and the opportunity to learn never stops, whether
it’s through self-directed education, international secondments or formal
programmes.
Deloitte’s 100 leadership partners are paired with a more junior member of
staff, whom they meet every couple of months. It seems to work; employees
say their job is good for their own personal growth (78%, the second highest
score).
Workers here also know they can rely on their colleagues, the 80% positive
score for saying they have confidence in their workmates’ abilities again
bettered just once elsewhere. Community spirit is strong, with thousands of
staff taking part each year in quiz nights, race nights, fun runs and bike
rides to raise money for good causes, and each year giving 15,000 hours of
professional time to the community.
Deloitte is also one of the top 20 payroll giving companies in Britain, with
more than 2,000 employees participating in its “give as you earn” scheme and
donating more than £500,000 to charity each year.
The company listens to its staff and acts on the results of its annual survey,
prompting the enhancement of a number of benefits recently. These include
stakeholder pensions, 25 days’ holiday, season ticket loans and paid
professional subscriptions for all employees.
Flexible working policies enable staff with more than six months’ service to
request to go part-time, while expectant mothers can ask for a reduction of
up to two working hours per day from 15 weeks before their baby is due.
Staff, who can earn quarterly bonuses of up to £2,500 for outstanding work,
can also take unpaid career breaks for up to two years.
