You’ve made it to the list but now you’ll want to make sure you maintain or even improve your levels of employee engagement. Once you’ve analysed your survey data you may be keen to make changes, but want guidance on what works and what doesn’t.
A ground-breaking new initiative by Best Companies Ltd aims to let leaders and managers experience engagement first-hand, so they can understand how best to motivate employees. Using cutting-edge technology and 60,000 sq ft of space, the Art of Engagement experience will challenge views on issues such as what makes a good leader, bring together best practice from the most engaged organisations in the UK, and give ideas on how to make real change.
“It is really exciting,” says Wayne Clarke, managing partner of Best Companies Partnership, who says the ambitious project is based on getting people involved in the process of engagement.
“This is going to be the largest experiential learning environment focused on emotional engagement,” says Clarke. “This has never been done before. It is a global first.”
The experience at GreenPark in Reading, which opens on April 20 for four months, will consist of zones based on each of Best Companies’ eight factors of engagement: Leadership; My Manager; Fair Deal; My Company; Wellbeing; My Team; Personal Growth and Giving Something Back. The leadership zone will feature a powerful speech from US President Barack Obama, and people will be asked to construct the attributes they think makes a good leader.
In the My Company zone, set up as if you are inside the head of a disengaged employee, visitors will learn how destructive a force a disgruntled worker can be.
A thinking space after each zone will pose questions to allow people to reflect on what they have seen, while a break-out area will help companies to start planning action.
“This is based on liberating the knowledge we have collected,” says Clarke. “It is easier to learn from someone else’s pain than your own. If used in the right way, this will save companies money and create more engaged employees.
“This is, ultimately, about the productivity of a nation.”
