Windows: to copy a snapshot of a screen layout (eg, to insert as a picture in a presentation), use the Print Screen function — press the Function key + Print Scrn key. Then go to the place where the picture is to be inserted and paste it in the usual way. You can then crop and resize it as you would any other image.
PowerPoint shortcut keys: when preparing a presentation, F5 takes you automatically to the presentation/slideshow mode. During a presentation, if you want to blank out the screen (eg, to answer questions), press B for a black background and W for a white one. Press Esc to return to the presentation.
Word: to automatically insert the file name and file location (path) in the footer, select Header and Footer from the View menu. From the Header and Footer dialogue box click the down arrow on the Insert Auto Text menu and pick File name and Path (and/or what ever other reference information you need such as Created by).
Useful website for women travellers: http://journeywoman.com. It contains a wealth of information including how to dress in other countries, smart ways to pack, etc. It is slightly geared towards non-business travel but nonetheless there are some excellent tips and hints.
Reader’s question from Jean Dodd: How can I insert French accents into e-mails?
Here are two options: Use the Alt key + code. Press Alt key while typing in the relevant number code. But you must use the numeric keypad for the code number. When you release the Alt key the appropriate accent will be inserted. The following website offers a list of codes: http://french.about.com/library/bl-accents.htm.
This is not always possible for laptop users. So an alternative is to use Word to edit and create e-mail messages. From the main Outlook Toolbar Tools menu, pick Options/Mail Format and tick the box marked Use Microsoft Office Word to edit e-mail messages. Now you can insert accents as you would in Word (from the Insert menu pick Symbols).
