The Club Company (TCC), the golf course operator once known as Clubhaus, has been acquired by Boundary, an Irish investment firm, for £96 million two years after it was taken private by Legal & General Ventures for £57 million. Boundary, which narrowly outbid Esporta, the health club operator, is backing the incumbent management led by Thierry Delsol, chief executive. TCC runs 11 golf and country clubs, including The Warwickshire.

Power surge

The energy bills of millions of ScottishPower customers are to rise by up to 17 per cent from next month. The company announced yesterday that, from July 10, electricity prices will rise by an average 10 per cent, while gas prices will increase by an average 17 per cent. Last October it raised prices by up to 12 per cent.

Barclays US buy

Barclays, Britain’s third biggest bank, has agreed to buy an American mortgage servicing business for $469 million (£256 million). The acquisition of the American mortgage servicing business of HomEq Servicing, part of Wachovia, boosts BarCap, the bank’s investment banking arm.

Langbar inquiry

The former chief executive of AIM-listed shell company Langbar is under investigation by accounting regulators over his role in the “establishment, listing and affairs” of the failed firm. Stuart Pearson, a trained accountant, faces an unlimited fine or loss of his licence if he is found to have behaved inappropriately.
