Career: Roger Carr helped Sir Nigel Rudd (see 18) and Brian McGowan to create Williams Holdings, the engineering conglomerate that split itself into Kidde and Chubb in 2000. Carr was chairman of Chubb from 2000 to 2002. He was a non-executive director of Thames Water from 1994 to 2000 and its chairman from 1999 to 2000.
From 1996 to 2003, Carr was a non-executive director of Six Continents, the leisure group previously known as Bass and subsequently demerged into Mitchells & Butlers and InterContinental Hotels in 2003. He was made chairman of M&B in 2003. Carr took up his positions with Cadbury Schweppes and Centrica in 2001. He was appointed deputy chairman of Cadbury in 2003 and chairman of Centrica last year. Carr is a senior adviser to Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, the private equity investor.
