Pop queen Madonna has proved that she’s still got it by reaching No. 1 on the UK singles chart for a record-breaking 13th time.
The singer, who turns 50 in August, flew into the top spot yesterday with 4 Minutes, featuring American pop pin-up Justin Timberlake.
The success of the first track from her new album, Hard Candy, meant the Material Girl broke her own record for the most UK No. 1s by a female solo artist.
A string of No. 1s, starting with Get Into The Groove in 1985, have seen Madonna hold the title for many years, with Kylie Minogue a distant second place, having achieved seven No. 1 singles.
Madonna's achievement yesterday pushed Estelle’s track American Boy, featuring rapper Kayne West, from the top spot to No. 2 and Sam Sparro’s Black & Gold down one to No. 3.
On the albums chart, The Kooks’ new album Konk debuted at No.1.
Riding on a wave of US success, Leona Lewis’s album Spirit rose from No. 5 to No. 2, putting her a place above Mariah Carey, who she is currently battling on the American charts.
The debut of Carey’s E=MC2, Konk, and the success of Lewis have ended Duffy’s long reign at the top.
The 23-year-old Welsh singer-songwriter spent five weeks at No. 1 on the album chart, before falling to No. 4 yesterday. Her song Mercy, which also spent five weeks at No. 1, has fallen to No. 8 on the singles chart.

I still don't understand why you people still discuss on her age, talent, and many other things. She was always dominant in pop music culture and i believe she will produce more #1 hits in the future. Mariah and Whitney do R&B soul flavored music. So, there is no need to compare apples & oranges.
Jack, Seattle,
Considering that this number 1 has been reached purely on download sales, it should silence the jealous critics that some how think that Madonna is over or has no talent.
Congratulations M - you're a true icon.

Too bad Amy. That is not the case here. The chart decides and not you. Sorrrryyyy....

Mariah or Leona deserve the #1 spot not Madonna. Her song sounds horrible and it really should be a Justin Timberlake song featuring Madonna. Justin's vocals pretty much take over and make the song while Madonna sort of gets pushed to the side. She should just retire. Can't sing...no more sex appeal...it's over.
