Hancock, for the first 40 minutes at least, is the summer blockbuster we deserve. An ironic anti-comic-book movie, it casts Will Smith as a degenerate alcoholic superhero in need of a publicity makeover.
Initially, bravura set-pieces are deftly balanced by an intriguing sense of character, both from Smith’s downbeat protagonist and from Charlize Theron as a publicist’s wife who has illicit desires for Hancock.
Sadly, the bar is set too high and the movie implodes under the weight of its own ambitions, denying Smith and Theron any chance at inter-racial happiness and becoming instead the very movie it decried. Cue the downtown destruction, the criminal mastermind (Eddie Marsan) and the corny comic-book resurrection finale.

just taken my 12 yr old son and my partner who really did not want to see this , to the movies - we all really enjoyed it - yes the first part was better than the second but i for one never saw the plot going that way . will smith was excellent as usual and i would actually go watch it again
helen ed and keil, shrewsbury,
when i assess a film i ask myself one question...given the budget and production staff could i have done something similar to this? considering i dont have any filmaking talent if i can say yes then im afraid that movie is utter rubbish!!and is not worth my money. I can definitely have made hancock!
john , LONDON,
I really enjoyed it; two hours of pure entertainment. Will Smith and Jason Bateman were fab. We go to the cinema to have some fun and this film delivers.
Grace, London, UK
Just saw the movie and it was fantastic. Will Smith and Jasaon Bateman were hilarious and Charlize was hot..if you just want pure entertainment and are not bothered about all these existential thoughts about how seriously one shoudl take superheroes, then you would love it..great special effects too

Worst film i've ever seen. Expect so much from Will Smith, was very disapointed with the outrageous plot that escalated from nowhere.

Honestly I loved the movie...however I think it would have been a lot better without the wife character, or rather have a different woman playing that character. i think when it got to when she "revealed" herself, the movie just got weird. That made parts of the movie corny to say the least....
Coleene, Kansas City, USA
Dont watch it then Benzo. Sounds original to me. Perhaps not delivered as best it could be.
Do you have anything else of interest to tell us about YOU!
James, London,
I enjoyed the film and the ending alot. I find it strange that people are calling it a "corny comic book ending" when I fail to see how it is one. It's dramatic and the ending was good in my eyes, especially (potential spoiler) as he was trying to get as far away as possible from her. Great film.
Liam, Manchester,
I saw this film last night and I have to say I enjoyed it very much. If you call character development imploding, then that's what it is. I recommend this as an entertaining film with a little of everything.
Darren, Norwich, UK
Its got Will Smith in it, that alone makes it worth the few quid to see it.
Scott, Stirling, UK
Struggling to think of any movie I'd rather watch less than this . I wouldn't give it 40 seconds .
Benzo, Nr Chelmsford,
I loved the commercials !!
John, Grand Prairie, Texas, USA
Can't wait to see it, and not every movie needs to have a love related ending, in fact I like the one's with an alternative not love related ending. Sounds great xx
